Curriculum

Required classes at AVA are taught in English and the curriculum is geared to prepare each student for entry into a college or university in the US or abroad. With the approval of Brazilian accreditation, AVA will be requiring all Brazilian students, and all students interested in attending a university in Brazil, to take Portuguese each year, and will be teaching elective courses in Brazilian History and Brazilian Geography as electives with Portuguese instructors.

AVA requires twenty two (22) credits for graduation. Computer 1, English 4 (Portuguese 4, if in the Brazilian track), Foreign Language 2 (normally English or Portuguese) 2, Fine Arts 1, Math/Science 5, Social Studies 3, Physical Education 2 years, and Bible, which is required for each semester a student is enrolled at AVA.

AVA seeks to provide the broadest possible offering for elective courses. When faculty is available, the English Department offers 2 electives, the Math/Science Department offers 5 electives, the Social Studies Department offers 2 electives, the Fine Arts Department offers 1 elective, and the Foreign Language Department offers French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish.
